Fake em into thinking you’ll go for Challenge the Power, while actually just collecting lots of points worth of rings! It can work, though I wouldn’t recommend it for worlds….
Start:
Buthrakaur
Grishnakh
Ufthak
Doeth
Whispers of Rings
Gangways
In Deck:
3 The Balrog
Resources:
2 We Have Come to Kill
3 Dark Tryst
2 Voices of Malice
3 Great Fissure
3 Crept along cleverly
2 A Nice Place to Hide
2 Great Shadow
2 Whispers of Rings
1 Angband Revisited
3 Gold Ring that Sauron Fancies
3 The Least of Gold Rings
3 Little Gold Ring (or whatever that last one is called)
1 Stinker
Key Sideboard Cards:
3 Hill-Troll
3 Troll-Lout
3 Orc-Tracker
1 Voices of Malice
3 Lesser Ring
3 Magic Ring of Savagery
1 Dwarven Ring of Durin’s Tribe
3 Darkness Wielded
1 Orcs of Moria
1 Orcs of Gundabad
1 Nasty Slimy Thing
Play Tips:
Get the hog into the main company right away, and just let loose with rings. Bring over the magic rings from the sideboard into Whispers, and automatically test the gold ones (hopefully 2 at a time: use underdeeps sites) at the end of the turn (because the balrog automatically tests gold rings in his company at -2). If this works correctly, you should have lots of lesser and magic rings in just a few turns. Use Great Shadow to keep recycling the Gold Rings, both so that you can play them again and to counter Rolled Down to the Sea. SB in a faction and grab ’em late game. With all that DI from the rings, you should have no trouble!
